NYT Column Contributions Ending

I have ended my regular contributions to the "Saturday Interview" column. For two years, I have contributed interviews with CEOs from companies including, Halliburton, Boeing, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Viacom, Interactive Corp., Dell, Sun Microsystems, Palm, Sirius... the list goes on. It has been an incredible ride.

One Update: New Job (Really Old News)

I was named Editorial Director of Inc.com and fastcompany.com in fall 2005. I oversee a group of sharp and talented writers, editors and designers. It's a thrill to work with this group and to work on two sites with such integrity and a passionate connection to their readers.

My New Gig

At Inc.com, I have been named editor, effective August 1. I've been working with Inc.com as a consulting editor and interim editor since the end of May last year. It's been exciting to see first-hand how important the site is to so many entrepreneurs and small business owners. I'm thrilled to finally join the Inc.com team full-time - and end four years of freelance!

ClickZ has awarded CIO Strategy Center, the site I edit, a Marketing Excellence Award. It's great acknowledgment of what we've been able to accomplish in nine short months.

Sunday Interview: Jarden (Who?)

The lede on my latest New York Times column is apt: Basically, it says you probably haven't heard of Jarden Corporation. Instead, you've heard of Sunbeam, the old name for American Household, which Jarden bought last fall. Companies like Jarden and Sunbeam are kind of boring -- selling things like rope and twine, vacuum cleaners and grills -- it's characters like "Chainsaw" Al Dunlap, former Sunbeam CEO, who make them interesting. Still, check out the interview to find out just how a company goes from controversial (Sunbeam) to commonplace (Jarden).

Saturday Interview: Nielsen

Measuring television viewing used to be so quaint. It was all about families in "Peoria" and what they were watching. If middle America liked a show, it was seen as a success. But as tastes and behaviors, not to mention demographics, have multiplied rapidly over the past few decades, tracking viewership has become a more complex, if not more controversial, undertaking.

In my latest Saturday Interview in the New York Times, I spoke with Nielsen Media Research CEO Susan Whiting about some of the issues facing television measurement today.

And the Winner Is...

...CIO Strategy Center! (We hope.)

One of the Web sites I edit, CIO Strategy Center, has been nominated for a Marketing Excellence award from ClickZ. This is really exciting news because the site is just nine months old. Last fall, I was hired to conceive and run this site and in this short time, thanks to the tireless efforts of some really excellent writers and the expertise of Studio One Networks (which distributes the site), we've turned this thing into something worthy of this attention. I'm beyond thrilled. Winners will be announced Monday, June 27.
